Oaktree Festival of Music & Dance

On Thursday 22 March, Oaklands, Normanhurst and Coopersale Hall Schools spent the day at Hawkey Hall in Woodford. All day Thursday we practised singing, dancing, recorder playing and orchestral items. We had to practise getting on and off the stage. The whole day was really tiring as we had no time for a proper break. We had to learn to change clothes very quickly. Everybody got to Hawkey Hall at 6pm Mr Hagger made a rather long speech then it all began at 6.45pm. Our changing room was underneath the stage and we were very squashed but we had to stay quiet. All the performances went very well. The festival ended at 9.30pm with a grand finale performed by all 3 schools. It was called ‘Don’t Stop Believing’.

Thank you to Mr Pope, Mrs Watson, Emma-Jane and all junior staff involved for making this an unforgettable night.  By Olivia & Sophie

All the children who took part in the festival last week performed to a really high standard and were a credit to our school, to themselves and to their parents. Overcoming some last minute hiccups during the rehearsals they performed magnificently on the night to massive appreciation from a very large audience. I would like to thank all the members of the junior choir, the orchestra, the recorder group, the Monday singers, the dancers and especially all those who sang and played solos, duets and trios. Enabling the children to perform at such a high level is a team effort, so I would like to thank all the teaching staff and the peripatetic music staff who have contributed to all the children’s development as musicians. Many parents said it was a night they will never forget. I agree, and I know that many of the children feel the same way.

Scottish Country Dancing - Year 1

Our dance teacher, Emma Jane Padfield, has been teaching our Year 1 children the art of Scottish country dancing and recently co-ordinated a dance display for the children to perform to their parents and to the school. Well done to all the children who took part and many thanks to Mrs. Padfield for her skilful tuition. The dancing was much admired and enjoyed with all the children sporting some tartan to set the scene. There were even some kilts on show as modelled here!

Visit by Epping Neighbourhood Police Team

Coopersale Hall were visited by members of the Epping Neighbourhood Police Team to talk to the children about safety in the community. Dependent upon the age of the children, the police officers explained about what police do, beating bullies, internet safety up to basic drug awareness and the law. The younger children got the chance to dress up in police uniform and they were even treated to sounding the siren on a real police car. They were given various handouts and they also had great fun finger printing each other and were able to bring home their own evidence! It was a very useful visit and we are sure the children thoroughly enjoyed it. Our thanks to the Police Team for their input.

Nursing it Better

Our Year 2 pupils have been studying Florence Nightingale as part of their project 'Famous People'.  The children were treated to a visit from a nurse, who came to talk to the children about her work and to explain how modern day medicine has changed since the days of Florence Nightingale.

The children were also treated to a visit by another nurse who brought in a variety of nurses equipment.  They had great fun trying out surgeons' gowns and bandaging each other.

A Visit from Santa

Christmas Concerts

Our Christmas concerts got under way this week with performances to our parents by the Kindergarten and Infant children.  The children in Lower and Upper Kindergarten sang a selection of Christmas songs and then repeated the performance to the children and staff.  It was a delight to see the children perform with such confidence at this very early age.  Our thanks to all the Kindergarten staff who nurture these little one and who are helping them to develop so well.

The infant children performed a delightful concert called “Prickly Hay” to their parents and impressed everyone with their confident manner and just how much they were able to learn.  They seemed to thoroughly enjoy the performance and so did the audience!  Our thanks to all the infant staff who have worked so hard to produce this concert, especially Miss Leeks and Mrs. Bragg.

Every Picture Tells A Story

Coopersale Hall School were very privileged to have Mr & Mrs Rod Stewart officially open our new classroom block at the end of November.    We are very proud that, 21 years after its conception, Coopersale Hall School continues to thrive within our local community.  The sun shone and our choir sang with Mr & Mrs Stewart unveiling a plaque to commemorate the event.  We are most grateful for their participation helping to make it a most enjoyable occasion with many of our parents attending to share the day with our staff and children.

Children in Need - November

Thank you to everyone for your donations towards the Children In Need appeal and we hope your children enjoyed our non uniform day. There were many wonderful cakes supplied by our Key Stage One parents and we are very grateful for all their efforts in supplying such an array of home made delicacies. We raised a terrific amount from this event so again many thanks for your support.

Our children appeared in all sorts of wonderful spotty costumes and well done to everyone for making so much effort at short notice; especially admired were the hand made designs sported by some of our pupils. All in all, a very fun day was had by all and for a very fitting purpose.

On Tuesday 4 October we had a Roman soldier come to our school, he was so funny.  He was wearing a helmet and holding a spear. The Roman soldier gave us a spear and a shield, they were not real ones.  He then put us into groups, I was in group two.  We then marched down to the Astroturf; we made a tortoise with our shields to protect our partners from Mrs Wheeler, and Mrs Russell who were throwing bean bags at us.

We then went back into the studio where we had our snack and then carried on.  Afterwards we talked about what the Celts like to do.  One of the things was that Celts loved  to keep clean, but apparently Queen Elizabeth the First only had one bath a year.  I thought that was disgusting.   We then had to eat a date.  Some children’s faces went green and some threw theirs in the bin.  At the very end we had to dress up.  I was the slave so I didn’t have to dress up.  I dressed up my master Lucinda, we all laughed.  The Roman soldier was hilarious.  We all had a great time.

Well done Megan for an excellent piece of work!

Mrs. Wheeler’s class have been studying Romans and Celts as their history topic and they performed an assembly for

their parents on the subject this week to coincide with the visit of their Roman soldier.  All in all, they have spent a

very interesting week learning about the times gone by.

Sports Day 2011

The children from Lower Kindergarten took part in their Sports Day races on Wednesday 15 June. They had been practising hard to juggle with hoops, pick up soft toys and balance bean bags. The final race with the whole class running together was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children. To round off the event the children joined their familes on the terrace for some well deserved refreshments and praise.

The infant and junior sports days were also held and Zoe F (Athletics Captain) explained a little about the junior event as follows :-

On Tuesday we had our Junior Sports Day. The parents obstacle race was first where we had lots of volunteers who were all eager to win.

There were three different types of races for us, skipping, sprint and the sack race. Everyone tried really hard, and all ran very well.

We also had a middle distance race for the winning sprinters, and a relay at the very end. We all enjoyed our afternoon. With special thanks to Mr Robinson and Mrs Lane.

Maypole Dancing - May

Thank you to all our families who supported the recent May Fayre at Swaines Green in Epping. The day was great fun for all the family and it was such a wonderful occasion for our Maypole Dancers to show off their talents. Rebecca  was one of the dancers and reported on the event as follows :-

On Saturday 30 April Years 3 and 4 danced around the Maypole at Lower Swaines, Epping. It was great fun. Everybody danced well. Then it was the adults turn. We will be dancing at Copped Hall on Sunday 29 May.
I enjoy Maypole dancing.

Thank you also to Mrs. Rones for her expert tuition in teaching our children the wonders of the maypole.

Royal Wedding Celebrations - April

The children enjoyed a wonderful day of celebration here at Coopersale Hall School with a mock wedding of our own between the Head Boy and Head Girl, accompanied by our own orchestra.  There was a special lunch and an array of 'royal' games and activities throughout the afternoon.  The children looked splendid in their red, white and blue costumes and some of the girls were dressed in bridesmaid dresses, looking like our own little princesses.  A selection of photos are show below.

The Day the School Turned Red - March

The school turned into a sea of red during assembly when all the children were dressed to help celebrate Red Nose Day.

They all had a great deal of fun as a non uniform day is always enjoyable but thank you to everyone who has brought their £1 coin in towards the Comic Relief charities. At a time when such terrible events are occurring around the world, it helps us all remember how very fortunate we are.
