Although there is limited entry into Year 1 and beyond at 5+, 6+, 7+, 8+, 9+ and 10+, children often apply to join us at these stages.
We recognise that families relocate from time to time for many reasons, which invariably leads to the requirement of a new school for the children. We have seen an increasing trend recently of children trying to join us from other local schools as families take advantage of our outstanding all-round education.
Coopersale Hall has a well established method of helping children settle in quickly to establish new friendship groups and continue their education from where they last left off. Your main concerns will be that your children are happy and well educated, which are two of the many strengths commended by the regular external inspection teams.
7+ is a popular entrance age group, as the years from 7+ to 11+ are fundamental to children’s progress onto senior schools. Parents naturally desire the best possible chance possible for their children to shine at their 11+ exams and are impressed by our proven track record at getting children into senior schools when they come to leave Coopersale Hall.
In contrast to the majority of schools, at 7+ and beyond we do not have a formal entrance exam and interview procedure as we feel this can be too daunting a process for children sometimes as young as 6 years old.
Part of our ethos of providing a nurturing and family-based school environment has lead us to develop a unique system of informal assessment that eliminates the nerves and pressures of more formal, intimidating entrance exams. We make sure that our school is right for your child by offering individual classroom-based taster sessions tailor-made to your child's needs so that we can accurately assess his/her suitability for admission. This would normally be throughout a morning, but shorter sessions may occasionally be suggested and we are sometimes able to schedule sessions after school if this best fits your busy schedule.
We recognise that children learn at different rates and so have adopted a personalised approach to learning. Our gifted and talented children are extended and challenged, and those who need a little more help are well supported. As a relatively small school, our children and staff know each other very well. We also get to know our parents and aim to build excellent relationships with you from your first days with us. You will have the opportunity to talk with your child's teacher on a daily basis if needed, together with regular meetings with us to ensure a full flow of information so that you know what's going on.
Our aim is that all children move from Coopersale Hall to a senior school that suits them and their particular interests and talents. By the time children are 11 years old, there are enough indicators to allow parents, along with their children's teachers, to choose the most suitable school. Not all senior schools are alike, and our experience and good relationships with the selective senior schools means that we can advise parents well. Read here how we prepare children for their 11+ entrance exams and see where Year 6 children moved to last year.
