School Life

The Library
The School is proud of its fine Library, housed in a beautiful oak-panelled room with an extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction. Classes throughout the School have access and children are taught library skills and encouraged to read widely.  The Library is in addition to the individual class libraries.

Visits and Trips
Various educational visits are arranged every year including visits to museums and galleries, farms, theatres and outdoor study areas. There is also a five-day activity trip for the older children. These activities are of tremendous benefit to the children. As they face new challenges they learn to make decisions for themselves and co-operate with others in the community.

Religious Education and Assemblies
We welcome pupils from all faiths and cultures. Religious education is part of our curriculum throughout the School and lessons aim to foster a balanced knowledge of respect for major religions. Regular assemblies are held for all pupils. We are in the parish of Theydon Garnon and have close links with St. John’s Church, Epping. The children go there for the annual Carol Services and Christmas Tree Festival. In addition we are visited by a member of the Parish team for our Harvest Festival and Easter Service.

Charity Work
Each year our pupils are encouraged to support a range of local and national charities.  The dual purpose is to raise funds and to encourage our children to be sensitive to the needs of others.  Some of our recent chosen charities have been: NSPCC, ST. Clare’s Hospice, The Manna Centre, Jeans for Genes, Dr Barnardo’s, Schools for Sport and Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The House System
All pupils are divided into four Houses: Beech, Chestnut, Oak and Willow.  House competitions are regularly held to give pupils the opportunity to represent their Houses and experience competitive situations.

There is a merit-point system throughout the School that encourages pupils to achieve high standards in work and behaviour and to earn House Points.

Before-School and After-School Care
A fully-supervised Breakfast Club runs between 7.45am until the start of school.  Nutritious and healthy breakfasts are provided for each child.  There is an hourly charge for this facility.

We also offer a Tea-Time Club daily from 3pm until 6pm.  Our staff arrange indoor and outdoof games and other activities and provide a light snack.  Places may be booked in advance or on the day, and are charged at an hourly rate.

Homework Club runs from 3.30-4.30pm and is for Juniors only.  Again this is charged per hour.

Clubs and Activities
There are a number of clubs and activities held during or after school.
