Year 6 presented a very well thought out, interesting assembly to the whole school about reading. They talked about how it is something that we all do – something that gives us many different types of skills and strengths, something that allows us to be whomever we want to be, go to places we have never been before in an instant, and do incredible things that we would never believe that we would be able to do!
Year 6 talked about how not only is it an enjoyable thing to settle down and do in your free time, but it is also something we do every day without thinking about it. We read the name of the cereal on the box in the morning, we read the text messages from our friends and read our timetable on the board to see what our next class is.
The brain is like a muscle that needs regular exercise, just like your triceps and biceps. Reading is also a wonderful way to relax your mind at the end of the day. Great books teach you some valuable lessons and can change the way you think and do things in the real world.
A book is a device that can ignite the imagination and allows you to understand how you are feeling, expand your mind to help you find the right words when writing school work and is a wonderful way in which to share your thoughts and ideas with your family.
