Mrs. Zylstra hosted our whole school assembly and was delighted to inform the children that, as part of Mental Health Week in association with the NSPCC, we were participating in this nationwide initiative.
Before proceeding further, Mrs. Zylstra highlighted the important role of the NSPCC as an organization dedicated to supporting children by providing a safe space and trusted individuals to talk to about their concerns. She emphasized that the NSPCC’s mission is to help children and protect them from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. She also shared the NSPCC helpline number, explaining that children could call it anytime for support.
Throughout the assembly, the children were encouraged to memorise this crucial helpline number. Every child was engaged, taking the time to reflect and discuss with their peers why it was so important to remember the number and how it could help those in need.
Mrs. Zylstra also expressed her excitement about our participation in a nationwide maths tournament. She explained how everyone could take part and announced an additional in-school competition, where students could win prizes for practicing their skills on Times Table Rock Stars.
The assembly concluded with a series of maths problems and critical thinking exercises, where students explained their reasoning behind their answers. Finally, everyone recited the NSPCC helpline number together, reinforcing the vital message that the organization stands for: “Cruelty to children must stop. FULL STOP.”
