Stories Brought to Life, Seniors Reading Club, April 2026

The Senior's Book Club has embarked on a programme of reading and performing stories for Years 1 and 2 in the library. They began with the much-loved classic The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson; written in rhyme, the story captures the imagination.

This programme draws on the seniors’ skills in voice projection, dramatic expression and pacing, and in engaging their audience through a variety of performance styles, while continuing to refine these abilities. In turn, the audience develops listening skills and rediscovers the social joy of sharing stories, being introduced to a range of tales while also revisiting much-loved favourites.

The children were so enthralled by this initial performance that they were eager to suggest some of their own favourite books for inclusion in the forthcoming programme. They were also highly appreciative of the courage and skill involved in creating an engaging storytelling experience that transports them and ignites their imagination.

Everyone is certainly looking forward to the next tale and expressed their thanks to the Seniors for delivering such a wonderful performance.
