Reading Choices - May 2026

At Coopersale Hall School, we consider reading to be a cornerstone of learning, enabling pupils to access all areas of the curriculum whilst also providing a strong sense of personal achievement and enjoyment.

Reading not only supports academic progress, but also allows pupils to develop their own interests and preferences. Through books, pupils are able to engage with authors they enjoy, build empathy by exploring how characters overcome adversity and challenges, and deepen their understanding of the world around them. Reading also encourages curiosity, allowing pupils to investigate historical topics in greater depth, discover new ideas, and broaden their knowledge across a wide range of subjects.

We are always delighted to celebrate pupils selecting books that capture their imagination and provide them with pleasure and relaxation. Encouraging children to read for enjoyment is an important part of school life, and we strive to create an environment where every pupil feels inspired to explore new stories, genres and authors.

All pupils know that they are welcome to share suggestions for authors or book collections they would like to see in our school library. These requests can be discussed with Mrs Boultwood, our librarian, who is always pleased to listen to pupils’ recommendations and help source books that reflect their interests and enthusiasm for reading.

At Coopersale Hall School, we endeavour to foster a lifelong love of learning and reading through classic novels, poetry, books that promote resilience and empathy, works of non-fiction, and texts that encourage a deeper appreciation of nature and the wider world.
