Year 5 Assembly on Space
The Year 5 pupils presented a wonderful and informative assembly to the gathered pupils and families in the hall. They immediately captured our attention with their dramatic and evocative recreation of a 1960s news series, Into the Great Unknown, hosted by Mick and Mack.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we will meet famous people who have gone ‘where no man has gone before’. Oh boy, have we got a show for you tonight!”
Before the invited guests came onto the stage to get everyone into a “Luna Mood”, the resident band, The Blue Mooners, entertained us with a lively song and dance performance. Before being introduced to the special guests, all born in the 1930s and destined to fly to the moon, we were taken back to their births, with each set of parents sharing a little of their background story.
Before each astronaut, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins, told us about their specific roles and experiences, Mission Control held a quiz in which two teams tested their knowledge of the events of the Space Race that culminated in the Apollo 11 mission. The audience were reminded of Neil Armstrong’s famous immortal words: “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
Throughout this engaging and highly informative narrative, there were many songs and dances performed by the whole class, as well as recurring appearances from The Blue Mooners. Mr Wilson was delighted to highlight how wonderfully the pupils delivered their lines, performed with dramatic emphasis and sang their songs with great enthusiasm. We were also delighted to learn that all of the choreography in the production had been created by the pupils themselves.
It truly was a memorable performance.
