Year 2 Colchester Zoo Trip

Year 2 were thrilled to visit Colchester Zoo as part of their topic-based learning on Africa. The pupils were excited to see up close the animals that are part of the African savannah, as well as many others from around the world.

The children were delighted to learn from the keepers why flamingos are pink and enjoyed reading the informative display boards, which explained whether the animals were endangered, how long they live, and the countries they originate from. The pupils also tested their strength on the interactive displays dotted around the zoo.

We enjoyed our lunch near the hyena enclosure and were excited when one of the hyenas came right up to the glass to investigate our lunches. The children also had great fun playing in one of the playground areas before continuing along the animal trail. We were thrilled to see Amir the tiger enjoying a dip in his pool and watched an orangutan waking up from its afternoon nap.

There were so many highlights to this wonderful day, with plenty of happy faces and interesting conversations as the pupils enjoyed the wide variety of animals they could see. Mrs Hogarth and Mrs Zylstra were delighted with how well the pupils behaved. They were respectful to the other visitors enjoying the zoo and considerate of the younger children spending time there with their families.

Well done Year 2, you were excellent ambassadors for Coopersale Hall School.
