Dinosaur Day

Mr Wilson was delighted to welcome everyone back to school. He was pleased to share that it was National Dinosaur Day. Together, everyone journeyed through time, from the moment of the Big Bang to the present day, exploring the events that have shaped our world.

The pupils enthusiastically shared their understanding of the events that led to the extinction of the dinosaurs and discussed how the animals that survived evolved and adapted to the environmental changes caused by the asteroid impact.

They learned that Earth has experienced five mass extinction events, including the asteroid impact in present-day Mexico, the Ice Age, and periods of intense volcanic activity both on land and beneath the oceans. For an event to be classified as a mass extinction, around three-quarters of life on Earth must be affected.

Mr Wilson reflected on how the robin we see in our gardens is a distant relative of the Tyrannosaurus rex, made possible through millions of years of evolution and adaptation to changing circumstances.

It was a wonderful way to begin the final term, and Mr Wilson was delighted by the depth of knowledge shared by the pupils and their understanding of the importance of adapting to the changing world around us.
