Year 1's trip to Colchester Castle
Year 1 recently visited Colchester Castle as part of their topic work ‘Why do we have castles?’ The children really enjoyed looking at the artefacts which included paintings, coins and armour. They took part in fun activities linked to life in the castle. One of these activities involved smelling different herbs that were used to help heal the people that lived in the castle when they were unwell.
Other activities involved dressing up as knights as they explored the defence features of the castles such as thick walls, the space where the portcullis used to be and battlements. Mrs Kerrigan and Mrs Stanley were very impressed with the children’s enthusiasm on this trip and the knowledge that they were keen to share with the Castle staff that they learnt during their topic lessons at school.
