Year 4 Art - Save the Turtles
Year 4 have worked really hard and had a fantastic time creating a three-dimensional art-work installation.
We used our endangered animals drawing unit as a springboard to create a fantastic mixed media sculpture. Firstly we discussed the plight of the Hawksbill turtles and why their numbers are diminishing in their natural environment mainly due to plastic pollution and mankind not taking accountability so re-cycling throughout our project was an aim. We then made our turtles using a range of methods including an armature and papier-mâché focusing on keeping the shape and natural patterns of our turtles, which the students loved doing, many of them being named which was lovely to see.
Our next task was to consider the environment in which the turtles lived so we developed a habitat of sand, rocks and seaweed using re-cycled materials.
What was really lovely was throughout this unit we not only explored many different techniques and skills like sculpting and painting, we had multiple discussions about what our next steps would be and we worked collaboratively as a team.
A big well done Year 4.
