Year 6 Batik Artwork

Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed learning the skills involved in creating their own batik artwork, inspired by the colourful and vibrant style of Romero Britto. Through this project, the pupils explored Britto’s use of bright colours, bold patterns and striking designs to create eye-catching pieces of art.

Romero Britto is a Brazilian artist, painter and sculptor whose work combines elements of Pop Art, Cubism and graffiti. His distinctive style is recognised around the world for its vivid colours and playful patterns, which convey messages of hope, happiness, positivity and dreams.

As part of their learning, the pupils were introduced to the traditional art of batik printing, a wax-resist dyeing technique used to create decorative textile designs. Using a tjanting (or canting) tool, they carefully applied hot wax to selected areas of linen fabric. The wax acted as a barrier, preventing the dye from penetrating certain sections of the material. The children then used vibrant ink dyes to paint their designs, gradually building layers of colour and tone to create rich, multi-coloured textile artwork. Once the dyeing process was complete, the wax was removed to reveal the finished design, with its striking contrasts and intricate details.

Mrs Bull was delighted with the enthusiasm, perseverance and care that the pupils demonstrated throughout every stage of the process. The children embraced the challenges of this intricate technique and produced beautiful pieces of artwork that clearly reflected the influence of Romero Britto’s style while showcasing their own creativity and individuality.

To celebrate their achievements, each design was professionally mounted in a frame and presented to the pupils as a special keepsake of their time at Coopersale Hall School. These wonderful artworks will serve as a lasting reminder of their creativity, hard work and the many memories they have made throughout their school journey.

Well done, Year 6 Class of 2025–2026. We are incredibly proud of all that you have achieved and wish you every happiness, success and confidence as you begin the next exciting chapter of your education at your new schools.
