Welcome Back Assembly - The Invisible Glue - November 2026
Mr Wilson was delighted to welcome the pupils back for what promises to be a wonderful term. During the assembly, he introduced them to ‘The Invisible Glue’, which represents the four fundamental British values that underpin our society: democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance.
The discussion in the hall was lively and engaging as Mr Wilson explored what each of these values means in everyday life. He encouraged the pupils to share their thoughts through a variety of discussion points, including a show of hands to discover who liked pineapple as a pizza topping! This provided a fun and relatable way to help pupils understand that, even when we have different opinions or preferences, we should always respect one another's choices.
The concept of democracy was brought to life through a vote on which sport should be played throughout the year. Football narrowly won the vote, but this prompted a thoughtful discussion about whether it would be fair if everyone had to play football all year round. Through carefully chosen examples, Mr Wilson encouraged the pupils to think more deeply about these important values and how they influence the way we treat others.
It was a wonderful assembly, full of discussion, reflection and thoughtful contributions. The pupils were reminded that freedom of choice is a wonderful privilege, but one that comes with the responsibility to respect others. These values are at the heart of our families, our school and the wider community, providing the invisible glue that connects us all.
