Maths - Greater than & Less than

The greater than ( > ) and less than ( < ) symbols are used to compare two numbers, with the open side of the symbol always pointing towards the larger number.

This term, Year 2 Hogarth have been developing their understanding of the greater than, less than, and equals symbols. Using Dienes, they have represented mathematical sums in a pictorial form. The children had the opportunity to identify the value of each digit and, by using the correct symbols, construct accurate representations.

This activity has helped the children build their understanding and confidence in recognising the value of numbers and selecting the appropriate mathematical symbols.
