Infants

Physical Education is used to develop our pupils’ competence and confidence, and to encourage creativity. It promotes physical skills, physical development and knowledge of the body in action. The pupils are also taught about the importance of having positive attitudes towards active and healthy lifestyles.

Activities

Coopersale Hall’s physical activities in Years 1 and 2 include gymnastics, athletics, ball games and dance. All children take part in the Sports Days.

By the end of Year 2 the pupils will be able to play a variety of simple games and demonstrate an understanding of rules and basic tactics.  They should have the ability to apply the skills they have been taught such as kicking, throwing and catching, and will be able to remember and perform simple gymnastic and dance sequences with confidence.

Measuring Development

Pupils are observed in each lesson as part of our on-going ‘assessment for learning’. They are awarded twice-yearly grades for effort and attainment in each of the main activities they have undertaken.

Juniors

Coopersale Hall has an inclusive sports programme to involve as many children as possible in a wide variety of sports activities. This helps children develop healthy lifestyles where teamwork and fair play are valued. The sports teams that represent Coopersale Hall School achieve regular local, regional and national success.

Team Selection

Coopersale Hall runs many teams, including cross country running, athletics, netball, football, swimming and tag rugby. Our teams are selected based on pupil achievement and we are proud of our sporting reputation as a school. Where appropriate we also run ‘B’ teams so that we can give as many pupils as possible the opportunity to represent the school.

We organise many in-house competitions such as cross country running, swimming and athletics, giving every student the experience of competitive sporting events.

Seniors

Coopersale Hall uses a wide range of the district’s finest sporting facilities, including Epping Swimming Pool, the Lee Valley Athletics Centre and the Peter May Centre.

The PE programme throughout the school is designed to promote physical activity and incorporate the thinking involved in making decisions, selecting, refining judging and adapting movement. Through our programme pupils are encouraged to develop physical competence in a broad range of activities as well as personal qualities of commitment, fairness and enthusiasm.

All pupils are expected to participate in the regular inter-house competitions. The school teams are selected on ability and compete within the borough and ISA. Clubs and after school activities are open to all.

In Years 7 to 11 pupils should build on and embed the physical skills learned in lower years to become more confident in techniques across a broad range of sports as individuals and as part of a team. We aim to develop confidence and interest to get involved in exercise and sporting activities out of school and in later life. Pupils should understand the importance of exercise and the long term benefits of physical activity.
