Year 2 Explore and Understand Shape

Year 2 have been exploring how to identify and understand different shapes. They have examined the number of sides, the number of vertices (corners), and the number of angles each shape has. The pupils were very quick to recognise and name a wide range of shapes.

They then worked in pairs to create shapes on their geoboards and thoroughly enjoyed making a variety of different shapes while discussing their properties. Through these activities, the pupils continue to develop their ability to recognise, describe, draw, compare, and sort shapes using the correct mathematical vocabulary.

The pupils also enjoyed making their own cube nets and then assembling them into 3D shapes, which they decorated with great enthusiasm.
