Year 5 Understanding Maths

In Year 5, data handling teaches children how to collect, interpret, and present information using charts such as line graphs and Venn diagrams to solve problems. At the same time, work on fractions builds on their understanding of parts of a whole, progressing towards more complex concepts including equivalent fractions, mixed numbers, and comparing fractions. These ideas are linked to real-world situations and measurement.

The overall purpose is to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, demonstrating how data (statistics) and fractions are used in everyday life and in science.
