Year 6, 9 & 10 Holocaust Workshop
Year 6, 9 and 10 were fortunate to have a visiting curator from the Epping Forest District Museum come to school this week to enhance and compliment their learning around The Holocaust. Victoria Mitchell from the museum, presented stories from The Loughton Boys. These were 300 boys who were saved from labour camps in World War 2. They came to Loughton (Manor Road) to live in a hostel called Holmehurst. We explored stories of survival, loss, family and relationships along with success. Pupils shared individual timelines of the survivors and used sources of information to discover what life would have been like. Pupils made a memory square that made a ‘patchwork quilt’ of these stories. It was incredibly moving and pupils asked some thoughtful and sensitive questions.
