Year 3 Journey Back to the Egyptians
Year 3 captivated pupils and parents with their assembly, transporting us back to the time of the Ancient Egyptians. They surprised the audience by posing an archaeological puzzle to solve and presented many fascinating facts to consider.
We learned about the importance of the Nile and how the dry deserts surrounding it provided excellent protection from invaders. The Egyptians themselves became great conquerors, expanding their empire by invading and claiming new lands.
Through the songs and dances in the assembly, we discovered the artefacts used to mummify the bodies of the wealthy, how essential the Nile was to daily life, the many gods they worshipped, and the significance of the afterlife to the Pharaohs who ruled this remarkable civilisation.
We also learned that Pharaohs spent much of their lives preparing and designing the layout of their pyramids, which would house the belongings they needed for the afterlife, such as their throne, food, water, gold, carriages, and a scarab to protect the heart.
It was a truly wonderful performance, and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the Egyptian dancing and the pupils’ clear, confident singing. Mr Wilson was very impressed by the lively and assured performance. Mrs Biddle and Miss Gilbert were extremely proud of how well the pupils shared the wealth of knowledge they had gained while enthusiastically studying this topic.
