Mental Health Week
This week is Children’s Mental Health Week. This year’s focus, chosen by the charity Place2Be, is ‘This Is My Place’, which highlights how everyone is part of a community, everyone is valued, and everyone belongs.
It has been wonderful to hear about the different places and situations in which pupils across the school feel part of a community. They really enjoyed discussing with one another the places and people that make them feel appreciated, valued, and loved.
In Lower Kindergarten, the children watched a short StoryBots video about emotions, which introduced them to a range of different feelings and ways to manage them. They also enjoyed colouring a picture for their books to support learning about Children’s Mental Health.
This week, the pupils have been taking part in Mental Health Week. On Friday, Mrs Stanley led an assembly to recap what the pupils had been discussing in their PSHE lessons through a variety of activities. She was pleased to hear the pupils share the places where they felt they belonged and was delighted by their responses.
She reminded the pupils that there are many places where they belong and that it is important to take care of both their physical and mental health. She also explained that if anyone was not feeling as though they “belonged”, they could speak to their families, trusted adults, their teachers, or make use of the school’s “Listening Ear” support.
