Valentine's Cards
Valentine’s Day is celebrated on 14 February and originated as a Christian feast day honouring Saint Valentine. Over time, it has evolved into a celebration of love and affection, marked by the exchange of cards and gifts. Pupils across the school have been inspired to create their own personalised cards.
According to legend, Saint Valentine of Rome also sent a note signed "from your Valentine" to a jailer's daughter after being arrested for secretly performing marriages. However, the story of Charles of Orleans is considered the first documented, non-mythical instance.
Year 1 have been inspired by the artist Cassie Stephens to create their pop-up Valentine’s cards. The pupils were very engaged and composed a short verse inside for their loved ones to enjoy. Well done to everyone, the cards are wonderful, and the children also showed great creativity with their envelopes.

Year 2 also enjoyed making their own watercoloured Valentine’s cards, taking care to blend colours and create shading to bring the flowers to life. They also composed a poem for someone they love, sharing the wonderful things they do and how special they make them feel.

Year 3 pupils thoroughly enjoyed creating pop-up Valentine’s cards for the special people in their lives. They had great fun designing their cards and celebrating this occasion.

Year 6 pupils enjoyed being able to make their very own mini flower and heart pop-up Valentine cards for their loved ones.
