Year 6 Bikeability 2026

Year 6 have been enjoying taking part in their Bikeability proficiency training this week. The pupils have been shown how important it is to ensure that their bicycles have all the necessary safety measures in place, such as the correct seat position, sufficient air in the tyres, working brakes, and of course, helmets and appropriate footwear.

Being able to enjoy cycling on our roads is a wonderful experience, and it is important that everyone understands the rules of the road before venturing out. It is equally essential that bicycles are properly equipped and safe.

The primary goal of Bikeability is to inspire pupils to develop confidence, competence, and essential safety skills, helping to make cycling a sustainable and lifelong habit. The programme aims to empower children to navigate modern traffic safely, improve their physical and mental wellbeing, and reduce the environmental impact of cars on the road.

This experience is fundamental in helping pupils to understand traffic, navigate junctions, anticipate risks, respond to hazards, and adopt correct road positioning. It is wonderful that they will carry these valuable skills with them throughout their lives.
