Year 5 Explore Mayan Culture

Year 5 are exploring Mayan culture and have taken the opportunity to learn about the tradition of making Guatemalan worry dolls. These dolls are traditionally used to help children—and sometimes adults—cope with anxieties and worries. By sharing their concerns with the dolls and placing them under a pillow, it is believed the dolls take the worries away during the night.

This practice has therapeutic benefits, providing a non-judgemental “listener” for fears, supporting better sleep, and symbolically transferring worries from the person to the doll. Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed making their own worry dolls, and we look forward to seeing the finished creations.
