Year 2H create Diwali Lamps

In their RE lesson, Year 2 Hogarth have been learning about the festival of Diwali. This is one of the major religious festivals in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. The name is derived from the Sanskrit term dipavali, meaning “row of lights”. The festival symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

Diwali is a sensory celebration filled with sweets, fireworks, oil lamps, and flower garlands. It typically falls in October or November and lasts for several days. For millions of families across India and within the Indian diaspora, it is a time for feasting, self-reflection, and prayers for good fortune.

As part of their learning, Year 2 created their own Diwali lights, thoughtfully designing symmetrical patterns. They truly embraced the spirit of the shimmering lights and vibrant decorations that reflect the joy and meaning of this festival.
