Anti-Bullying Week Assembly
Mr Wilson was delighted to welcome everyone into the hall. He reminded the pupils that last week had been Anti-Bullying Week and that he wished to recap and reflect on the points that had been raised. He invited the pupils to look at the screen and consider what they thought the story behind the picture might be. The pupils were engaged and enjoyed sharing their thoughts. Words such as “kindness, company, encouragement, friendship and happiness” were suggested.
Mr Wilson then asked them to think of words that meant the complete opposite, and the pupils offered “grumpy, sad, mean, anxiety.”
The pupils then watched a video showing a child whose anger and frustration with her home life caused her to be unkind to those around her—pushing people away, building emotional walls, and finding ways to criticise them for things they could not change. The video showed her being challenged by a trusted adult about her behaviour, and how she slowly and carefully rebuilt the relationships around her. She came to understand that, although there were things in her life she could not change, she no longer needed to respond with resentment. Her transformation from bully to friend brought her greater happiness and balance.
We closed our assembly with Mr Wilson inviting Johnny from 3G to the front to congratulate him on winning a medal in Brazilian Kwando, where he placed second. Ula then came to the stage to be congratulated for her fundraising achievements on behalf of St Clair’s Hospice. Everyone was delighted to give them both a round of applause.
Finally, Mr Wilson informed the school that following the School Councillor speeches on Friday, the votes had been counted. The school would be supporting the following charities in the coming year: Help for Heroes, proposed by Casper in Year 3, and Guide Dogs for the Blind, proposed by Ace in Year 2.
