Senior Poetry and Literacy Evening
Our Poetry and Creative Arts Night celebrated the power of words and imagination. Senior students brought classic and contemporary voices to life, alongside their own original creations. Arabella, Sofia, and Meira from Year 7 shared heartfelt works destined for the ISA Poetry Competition, showcasing emerging talent and creativity. Year 9 pupils Henry, Skylah, and Ava delivered a stirring rendition of Wilfred Owen’s Dulce et Decorum Est, reflecting on its enduring impact. Meanwhile, Ruby, Mimi, and Amayah introduced audiences to the evocative poetry of D. H. Lawrence, reading with passion and insight. The Year 11 pupils stunned us all with a recited and reimagined Act 1 of Macbeth, where the three witches spilled their plans and met Macbeth in a dramatic twist. Adding a touch of humour, Rauf from Year 8 recited I Forgot to Do My Homework and Flo, Year 7 performed the monologue, Jellybeans, earning more than a few giggles from the audience. The poetry was interspersed with musical performances on guitar, piano and vocals from Laaibah, Ivy, Loulou, Amaya, Rauf, Skylah and Gemma. We ended with the senior band and choir performing “Brighter Than The Sun”, a great way to show how words and music together can inspire.
The evening was a testament to the richness of literary expression and the confidence of our young performers.
