Upper Kindergarten learn about Winter and Animal Habitats
In UKF this half term the children have been learning about winter and animal habitats. The class went on a winter walk and found snowdrops, mole holes, a badger’s sett, and squirrel scratch marks on trees.
The children also noticed the fish hiding at the bottom of the pond to keep warm. Back in the classroom, they had fun making their own snow, exploring the texture and creating snowy masterpieces.
Upper Kindergarten Cambridge have also been learning about the season of winter. They have discussed and seen different weather conditions which has led to making bird feeders to help the birds survive the cold winter. The children hung them on the trees in the school grounds and the children were delighted to see that the birds had been visiting the feeders on a very frosty day when you could really see the leaves sparkle.
While walking around the school grounds the children noticed snow drops beginning to bloom and the red berries which the birds have been feeding on. They enjoyed spotting familiar landmarks and the underground trains while looking out over the view of Epping from the school field.
UKC have learnt lots of new vocabulary during this topic and now understand the meaning of words such as hibernation, migration, evergreen and deciduous.
