Year 1 Perform An Enchanting Class Assembly all About Toys

Year 1 Stanley was delighted to welcome their families and siblings to their class assembly, where they shared what they had learned in their topic lessons about toys.

The children explored the types of toys their grandparents would have played with, and some of them described these toys to the audience. They also shared their favourite toys and explained why they loved them:

  • Ava: “My Rainbow High doll is my favourite toy because it makes me happy.”
  • William: “My meme is my favourite because my sister gave it to me.”
  • Harry Th: “My favourite is Duplo because I like to build skyscrapers.”

The children sang several songs during the assembly, incorporating actions into their performance. One particularly fitting song was “Old Toys, New Toys.”

Through their learning, the children discovered that toys from the past were often made of wood and fabric, whereas today, toys can be made from a variety of materials, including plastic. They also crafted their own toy hand puppets in class, explaining to the audience the skills they had used.  These beautifully designed hand puppets were displayed on the stage backdrop for everyone to admire.

Additionally, the children explored toys from around the world:

  • In the Philippines, a board game called Sungka is played with shells.
  • In Ghana, children play a game called Ampe, which is similar to rock, paper, scissors, but instead of using just their hands, they use their entire bodies.
  • In Russia, Matryoshka dolls (nesting dolls) are popular, with each set containing smaller dolls inside the largest one.

Through their exploration, the children concluded that while toys have changed over the years, one thing remains the same—how much joy they bring!  Everyone applauded this wonderful assembly.

Mrs. Stanley was thrilled with how well the children understood the topic and was incredibly proud of their performance and hard work. Mr. Wilson also found the assembly fantastic and praised the children for their confidence in speaking, singing, and performing the actions to the songs.
