Year 4 Viking Workshop

The children in Year 4 took part in an exciting and immersive Anglo-Saxon workshop. They explored history hands-on by examining replica weapons and trying on a variety of helmets. A particular highlight was holding a heavy chainmail suit, which gave them a real sense of what Anglo-Saxon warriors would have worn.

The children also learned to write their names using Viking runes and compared these symbols to our modern alphabet. Throughout the day, they engaged in a range of interactive activities, including games that explored different aspects of Anglo-Saxon life. One especially enjoyable challenge was a food guessing game, where they tried to identify what Anglo-Saxons and Vikings might have eaten.

Additionally, the children handled a selection of artefacts and made thoughtful guesses about their uses and origins. The day concluded with a re-enactment of a pagan burial, offering the children a deeper understanding of Anglo-Saxon beliefs and customs.

Year 4 represented Coopersale Hall wonderfully, showing exemplary behaviour and enthusiastic participation throughout the day.
