Year 3 Trip to Epping Forest Field Centre

Year 3 visited Epping Forest Field Centre. The children learnt how to follow directions using a compass. They became experts at setting the degree on the compass and then aligning the red arrow to gather the right direction, using their new skill to follow instructions through the forest on a scavenger hunt.

Sadly, the rain meant everyone got soaked but the children persevered and some actually thoroughly enjoyed the torrential rain!

For the remainder of our trip, the children had a look at some taxidermy such as a local owl and squirrel, they had a go at feeling inside mystery boxes where they discovered feathers, wild mushrooms, bark, antlers and skeletons. This was most enjoyable for them but a highlight of the day was visiting the site’s axolotl, the children were fascinated to learn that it was a paedomorphic salamander!

Ultimately, our trip was a success and filled with lots of rain, laughter and adventure!
