Year 1 Explore the Young V&A

The pupils in Year 1 had a wonderful day at the Young V&A Museum in Bethnal Green, which specialises in objects, toys, and clothing from the past to the present day. They enjoyed exploring the various display cases that reflect changing perspectives on childhood, culture, and design, particularly within the three permanent galleries aptly named Imagine, Play, and Design.

The children viewed a wide range of toys and enthusiastically shared which ones they had played with and which were their favourites. Everyone was engaged with the interactive, hands-on exhibits. They enjoyed dressing up and performing on the amphitheatre-style stage, as well as discovering and creating their own shadow puppets. They used their imaginations to design and construct their own toys and spent time creating and playing their own board games.

We were also delighted to spend time in the Egyptian Exhibition Gallery, where the pupils viewed a large variety of artefacts, enjoyed the interactive displays, and took time to read books that explore this fascinating period in history.

Mrs Stanley and Mrs Vora enjoyed listening to the children’s thoughts about the toys on display and learning about the toys they enjoy playing with today. All the pupils participated enthusiastically in every activity the museum had to offer. They were exceptionally well-behaved, polite, and communicated thoughtfully with one another throughout this wonderful day.
