Year 5 & 6 Residential to East Mersea

Year 5 and 6 went to Mersea for two nights and three days at Epping Outdoors. Most people stayed with 7 other people in a wooden lodge with metal bunk beds, but they still were quite comfortable.

Our first activity started as soon as we got there which was early afternoon; we hadn’t even seen our rooms yet! The first activity, which was archery, was very fun, but we got put into groups that we didn’t choose, so a lot of people weren’t happy with their groups. On the third day it was Reevas birthday so everyone got two cupcakes or one cupcake and slice of cake.

I think everyone was excited but sad to go home because I don’t think anyone got more than 5 hours of sleep. My room went to sleep at 1 a.m. both nights and we had to wake up at 7a.m!

Delilah – Year 5

It all started Sunday night when we were so excited for the trip! I went to sleep early prepared for the trip to Mersea.

In the morning we got dressed in our school uniform as usual, I ate my Weetabix and got in the car on our way.

When we arrived, we did most of the normal lessons until… it was time to go to Mersea! I had been to Mersea a lot of times to go crabbing because my grandad lives in Colchester.

Anyway, after about one hour and thirty minutes we were there and that’s when we brought our suitcases to the cabin. We all went in then we went outside to find out who we were in a room with, I was very happy once I found out I was in a room with Arlo and Carter, I think most other people got with their friends. That’s when we did our first activity, Shipwreck. Some of the boys had to do the boat activity first so we found our supplies and started looking outside of the boat while the girls were inside. We found lots of items to build our shelter. After the girls found a treasure chest with some cool stuff in it, we had smores and made fire with flint and steel. After that we set off for our second activity, High Ropes: for high ropes I was one of the last people to climb up to the tower, everyone acted like Spiderman while hanging, but some of us were scared of heights.

The next day we had Low Ropes and then shortly after it was Archery. Our group weren’t all that good except for Mrs Howard; she aced it!

The last day it was Reeva`s birthday. Luckily, we had Caving; it was quite hard but at the same time fun. That was our last activity so we went back to school, got picked up and went to sleep.
