Mr Wilson was delighted to welcome the pupils back to school. He spoke warmly to everyone about the changes that have been happening around our school, and he also pointed out that the people in the hall had changed too – have you all grown? Looking around, you might notice some new faces, and that can make everyone feel a little nervous.
Feeling worried about change is perfectly normal. Some people like to take the plunge and dive straight in, while others prefer to dip their toe in slowly and get used to things bit by bit. But often, once you have become accustomed to the changes, they start to feel familiar and can even become very enjoyable.
The children were then invited to raise their hands and share some of the changes they had experienced. Felicity in Year 6B was thrilled to welcome a new guinea pig into her home, with the impressive full name “Raffnutty Fluffytoes Twinkle-Dancer Tortoise-Shell Zolo Maddison the 1st” – wow! Luckily, he also has a nickname.
Lucas D in Year 2H told everyone that he used to be afraid of crabs, but he overcame his nerves and discovered that they actually feel rather tickly in your hand! Leo in Year 3W explained that he had been worried about his nanny’s new home and new dog – but now he finds the dog is lovely, and nanny’s new home feels very familiar and welcoming.
The assembly drew to a close with Mr Wilson reminding everyone that changes can help us grow in surprising ways. He also encouraged pupils to share their worries with teachers, friends, and families, who can help make changes feel less worrying. Finally, Mr Wilson wished everyone a wonderful start to the new school year.
