Karate Champs!

Coopersale Hall School competed amongst a number of local schools in Kata and Kumite across several on weight categories. The pupils who took part were Charlie, Melissa, Edward, Olivia, Kenny, Matthew, Harry, Adbul and Riven.

Medals were awarded as follows:-

  • Charlie – Gold for Kumite (fighting)
  • Melissa – Bronze for Kata (sequence of moves)
  • Olivia – Gold in Kata and Bronze in Kumite
  • Harry – Gold in Kata

All the children worked very hard and it is not easy staying focussed whilst a number of people are watching; you have to concentrate and react quickly under pressure.  The standard is high and some children competing hold medals at world championship level.  UKA is one of the best karate clubs in the Country with high standards with many of the children competing at international level. Well done everyone, you all did so well!

On a similar note Melissa drove to Merthyr Tydfil, in Wales last weekend and took part in the Junior Welsh Open Championships 2016.  The competition was tough but Melissa worked hard and received a Bronze medal for Kumite in her best ever fight as the youngest member in her category. As you can imagine, she was thrilled. Congratulations Melissa, we’re very proud of you!
