Charlie has been working towards his 1st Kyu for almost 2 years since his last grading and having missed out to injury just before Christmas he has recently got his chance!
He spent over an hour being tested on basics, combinations, kata, pair techniques and finally had to fight both individually and against 3 opponents. This is to simulate street fighting when out numbered and is the closest you come in karate to a real fight.
Charlie was one of 3 candidates to take the test but the only one to pass with a distinction. Thanks must go to Sensei Dan Cuthbert who has been relentlessly drilling Charlie for a number of months.
The next grading will be his black belt, one which will take another 2 to 3 years of dedicated training.
