The children in Reception enjoyed a wonderful day out at Colchester Zoo to observe some amazing animals – both big and small. Once inside, the children first went on a walkabout to observe the Capachin monkeys, orangutans and the amazing Rainforest Walkthrough before stopping to watch the sea lions happily splashing around in their pool.
The children also took part in an education session where they had the chance to look at a collection of different animal artefacts and took part in some fun games to consolidate their understanding of the similarities and differences of animal groups.
After a lovely picnic lunch in the sunshine, the children enjoyed observing the African animals, including the elephants, giraffes, zebras and rhinos. The children thought it was amazing to get up close to so many animals during their visit.
At the end of the day, the children received a goody bag as a keepsake of their special day. The gift included a little red writing book which the children could use to create sketches and write down the names of all the animals that they had seen, as well as jot down some little notes to remind them of their day at the zoo!
