Harlow Outdoor Pursuits

On Thursday 19 September Year 5 and 6 went to Harlow Outdoor Pursuits. It took about 15 minutes to get there. I was really excited because I went before and I really wanted to go again. When we got there the teachers told us what group we were in, I was in group 1 and some of my friend’s where in my group and my Year 5 friends where in group 3 and 4.

My first activity was Leap of Faith. I went 3rd. You have to climb up a wooden pole and when you get to the top there is a square and you stand on it, there is a pole and you have to grab it and then you let go and you fall. You have a harness and a helmet and a rope attached to you so you won’t injure yourself.

I did kayaking after lunch which was fun. Then we said goodbye to the people in Harlow outdoor pursuits and we went to the coach.

On Thursday 19 September Year 5 and 6 went to Harlow Outdoor pursuits. The first thing we did was split up into groups. I was in group 3 with my best friends Emily and Sorrel. When we split up into our groups the first thing we did was canoeing. This was my favourite activity because I learnt how to steer a canoe and I also learnt how to work as a team. Canoeing was really fun. To start off with I didn’t even know the difference between a canoe and a kayak, but now I know how to steer a canoe, thanks to our amazing instructors, Dan and Phil. At the beginning Emily, Sorrel and I were going in the wrong direction but at the end we were steering the canoe like we were experts.  Dan and Phil were amazing instructors because they encouraged us to be our best and showed us that it may look hard but it really is easy if you persevere and keep trying.

After lunch the next activities we did were wall climbing and bouldering. The wall climbing was fun because I learnt how to pull the rope slowly when the person was climbing and make sure the rope was secure and not loose. I also managed to climb to the top which made me very happy because I could touch the roof of the very tall building and because I had achieved something I never thought I would achieve. After wall climbing we went bouldering. The bouldering was a bit scary because we didn’t have harnesses but the structure was only a metre tall, so we knew we weren’t going to fall very far and also there were crash mats underneath us. After some bouldering we played a game of shark attack I got into the final round. We had a fabulous time at Harlow Outdoor Pursuits. We gathered all our belongings together and waved goodbye to Harlow Outdoor Pursuits.

I had a really fun time at Harlow Outdoor Pursuits and I am really looking forward to going back again in Year 6.
