We are very proud of our Year 4 children who have been working very hard during their Maths lessons. They completed an investigation about the relationship between area and perimeter using centimetre squares to build 2D shapes, and then they worked out the perimeter and area for each shape.
They found out many interesting facts…
They discovered that knowing one piece of information, such as perimeter or area, is simply not enough to determine the exact dimensions of any rectangle and that a rectangle of area 20 square units could have dimensions of 2 x 10 or 4 x 5 or 1 x 20.
It was a very enjoyable, practical Maths session where the children used many mathematical skills such as measuring, multiplying, adding, recognising patterns, estimating, problem solving and critical thinking. Well done, Year 4.
