Y1 have been learning what sculpture is. They have loved looking at and discussing the work of Scottish born Andy Goldsworthy who sells his work worldwide.
They loved collecting natural objects and working collaboratively or on their own. Lots of discussion, evaluation and redesigning went on during the making process. Several children were so inspired that they went home and made another sculpture in their garden!
The children learnt that not all art needs to be permanent, and that working on a bigger scale can give an artist more freedom of expression.
