The Big Bug Hotel

Following Donald’s construction of his bee hotel last week, the rest of Y5 have been busy bees, constructing their first bug hotel. Everyone in 5N chose one aspect of the build to concentrate on and then got to work.

With family donations of sticks, bamboo, pottery and metal plant pots they made homes for bees and butterflies.

The hotel is now in situ near the pond and we hope it will be a welcome new home for the local insects.

After we had finished, Rauf noticed a section on bug hotel construction in a book he chose off the shelf in school. He discovered that ‘we missed a bit’! A tile or stone is needed on the roof of the hotel for protection from the elements. This sounds like a job for the Boys in Blue!
