For their History topic, work Year 5 have been investigating the Aztec period. They watched a video that explored how the Aztecs founded the capital Tenochtitlan, investigated how people lived in their city and researched the Aztec gods and goddesses.
Before making Aztec masks, both classes found that History could not be sure of exactly what the masks were meant to represent. They discovered that there were conflicting views and information.
Children read out the details that they found in their research books and together they compiled the different details to show what the historians had discovered about the Aztecs.
Before creating their masks, the children looked at the different styles of masks and the colours that they used. The children then went on to make their own beautiful Aztec masks.
