“Coopersale Hall is full of a vast variety of Historical Figures through-out the year groups. Year 5 Graves have organised this event to achieve their Silver Oak-Tree Challenge award. The children had to decide as a class what event they could organise in school in order to raise money for charity. After settling on a dressing up day 5G made posters and a letter to promote the event.
We have been astounded by the wonderful array of figures that we have found through-out the centuries. We have found Anne Frank, Einstein, Martin Luther-King, Frida Kahlo, Cleopatra, Micky Mantle (Baseball payer), Roger Banister who had run the first 4 minute mile and also, Katherine Switzer, who was the first female to run the Boston Marathon as a numbered entrant. She had registered for the race using her first initial and last name, so her gender on paper didn’t raise any suspicion. Although the marathon officials tried to physically remove her, they were unsuccessful and Katherine didn’t just make it to the finish line, she made history.
The monies donated will be given to Shelterbox. Currently over 100 million people around the world have been made homeless by disaster and conflict. Shelterbox is working to change this by providing emergency shelter and tools for families robbed of their home by disaster, helping to transform despair into hope.
We would like to thank everyone for making such inspirational choices with their historical figures and also to our families for their kind donations. We estimate that we will have collected around £180.00 towards this worthy cause.”
