The Hive, Year 4 camp

Year 4 – Camping to the Hive

The children in Year 4 recounted their experience of their recent camp residential, held at the Hive, from Wednesday 11th October until Friday 13th.  These are a selection of their thoughts:

Last Wednesday, we all went to The Hive.  In the afternoon we waited for the bus to arrive, and when it came, we went in feeling all excited.  It took 10 minutes to get there and we all got off the bus to be introduced to Alex.  She was going to help us with the activities.

Carter – 4G

We were going on the glamping trip for two nights.  We did this to become more independent and to build our confidence up.

The first thing we did was listen to Alex going through the rules and boundaries.  We then found out who we were sharing a pod with and unpacked all our luggage.  Putting on our wellies we headed into the forest.  We spoke about animal habitat and where we could find different animals in the forest.  After speaking about habitats, we looked for animals and put them into a pot (we released them after) and took them back to the Hive classroom and had a closer look at them through the microscope.  I caught a spider and two worms.

Margaux – 4B

We looked at our animals under a microscope to look at all the patterns like lines, dots, zig-zags and a lot more.  It was so interesting. We also found out what type of insects they were.

Harmonie – 4B

That night we had a quiz and it was very hard! But we had lots of fun.  While doing the quiz we had lovely warm hot-chocolate with a biscuit.  We had some pod time before bed time.  In my pod we played UNO which was fun.

The next day we did a treasure hunt.  We had to find cards in different places, just with a map and a compass.  Our next activity after lunch was den building.  It was wonderful and we call our den the Sunshine den.  We found a slug that we called Sunshine also.

River – 4B

That evening we sat around the camp fire and we all had a marshmallow to toast and we enjoyed some tasty hot chocolate.  I think that was one of my favourite bits. I would definitely go again.

On the final day we had breakfast and pod time.  Our final activity was to go into the Hive classroom where we had time to handle different animals such as – African snail, a salamander, a stick insect and a cockroach.

My favourite part was the food and building the dens.  I would definitely recommend it to you because it was fun hanging out with all my friends.

Carter – 4G

I really want to go back but stay for three nights!  I still was really happy to see my family.

Harmonie – 4B

I had the greatest time at camp and I would love to go again!
