On Thursday 8th February, year 3 dressed in a costume that represented either a mother or evacuee from WWII. They had a great time practicing how to put each other in the recovery position and make a sling as they recognised that during the war, these would be valuable skills to have. The children then enjoyed challenging themselves with war time games such as playing ‘Jacks’, ‘Pick Up Sticks’ and Battleships. They were able to compare the differences to the games played during the war and the games they play in the present day. They also wrote a postcard as if they were a mother writing to her evacuated child, or the evacuated child writing to their mother. They made these postcards heart felt and they clearly showed their understanding of the struggles such individuals would have faced during WWII. They had a blast and enjoyed battleships the most!
