Year 7 & 8 Trip to Lee Valley White Water Centre

Year 7 and Year 8 pupils journeyed to Lee Valley White Water Centre to take part in kayaking and the inflatable water assault course.

They arrived very early, but this turned out to be rather fortuitous. As the seniors waited for their session, the elite athletes who train at the centre, were coming off the lake.

Adam Burgess, the Paris Silver Olympic medalist in the C1 Canoe Slalom came over to talk to the children. He spoke about narrowly missing out on a medal in Tokyo by 0.16 of a second and how that drove him to work so hard for the next three years. He spoke about his grueling training regime and the number of days he spends travelling to competitions. We wish him well as he works toward LA 2028.

Year 7 & 8 changed into their wetsuits and shoes, got their safety jackets and helmets and headed out onto the lake. After their session everyone’s arms were aching so pupils had a rest before heading onto the inflatable assault course.

Pupils challenged Mr Barham to a race and one or two of them may have toppled him into the water! Everyone had a great time.
