The whole school gathered in the hall as the new week began. Mr. Wilson shared the poem The Chocolate Cake by Michael Rosen, which was well received by all year groups. He then introduced “The Marshmallow Test,” a famous experiment in which two children are each given a marshmallow and told that if they resist eating it until the presenter returns, they will be rewarded with an additional one. This test demonstrated the concept of delayed gratification—whether a child could wait for a greater reward.
The children were asked to consider why some might wait and others might not, and they were invited to share their thoughts. A quick show of hands revealed how many would have waited for the second marshmallow! Mr. Wilson explained that research has shown children who are able to wait tend to be more successful in life, as they develop patience, perseverance, and the ability to achieve their long-term goals.
Mr. Wilson was also delighted to present LAMDA certificates, highlighting how the children’s hard work and perseverance earned them excellent grades. Barnaby in Year 5 proudly received his certificate for completing the Oak Tree Challenge, and Jessie in Year 4 was applauded for his team’s recent win in the Tigers JFC football tournament over the weekend. Mr Wilson wished everyone a happy week ahead.
