During the half-term break, the pupils on the School Council were asked to consider which charities they would like Coopersale Hall School to support in the coming year. They were tasked with researching and presenting information about their chosen charities in a Key Stage assembly, during which pupils would vote on the charity they wished to support.
Below are the nominated charities, along with extracts from the presentations made to Mrs. Bull and the KS2 children:
Young Lives, presented by Ben (4W):
“When a child is diagnosed with cancer, life becomes full of fear for them and their families…. we might worry about a maths test, rain at playtime, or parents’ evening, but having cancer is very scary.”
Little Princess Trust, presented by Reeva (5H):
“This is a charity that helps people who have lost their hair during cancer treatment or related treatments.”
Make a Wish, presented by Golda (3B):
“This charity grants wishes to children. Why? Because the children who ask are seriously ill, and it makes them happy and helps them forget their sickness. Over 600,000 children in the UK have been diagnosed with critical conditions, changing their lives and their families’ lives.”
Spinal Injury Association, presented by Ayhan (3G):
“My cousin, who is 21 years old, had an accident in March. She fell off a wall that was two metres high. She is now paraplegic, which means she is paralysed from the waist down and uses a wheelchair. Nothing like this has happened in our family before, so we didn’t know what to do or how to help her. The SIA charity provided us with lots of support and information. This charity means a lot to me, and I would love to raise money for them.”
After all the presentations were made, the children reflected on the information and voted. They chose to support the Spinal Injury Association as their primary charity.
However, recognising that all the charities presented are highly deserving, it was decided to organise a separate fundraising event to support the other charities. The proceeds from this event will be divided equally among the other nominated charities.
