Year 1 will embark on a fascinating topic this term as they learn about the countries that make up the United Kingdom. They will explore many interesting facts about each part of the UK, including famous people, landmarks, and population sizes.
During their computing lessons, the children will create drawings and paintings of each individual flag that forms the Union Jack. They will also learn about and draw the national flower for each country within the United Kingdom.
The customs and traditions of each country will be explored through the delicious medium of cake. Year 1 has already enjoyed baking and tasting scones with strawberry jam. Every child has also had the opportunity to try a Welsh cake, and in the coming weeks, they will savor some shortbread as well. The children are sure to have fun deciding which traditional cake they like best—or perhaps they’ll enjoy them all!
