Our Year 5 pupils recently went on a trip to the National Portrait Gallery.
After the day out, the children were asked to either recount their day at the National Portrait Gallery or compose a letter of “thank you” to their guide, Paul and letting him know their thoughts regarding the day.
In their thank you letters to Paul, pupils wrote:
Reeva (5Z) – I want to give you a massive thank you for the wonderful time we had at the National Portrait Gallery.
Harmonie (5Z) – When you showed us the Tudor room, I was amazed how many detailed portraits there were – they all looked very realistic and must have taken ages to create!
Olivia (5H) – It was wonderful and I would really love to come back and look at the Tudor gallery but in much more detail. We loved looking round every room, some galleries were photo’s and others were paintings, either way they were both Art!
From their recounts of the day:
Edward (5H) – As part of our history and art topics, we visited the National Portrait Gallery. We identified symbolism in the Queen Elizabeth I portrait, spotting a dark storm on one side of her and a clear sky on the other.
Felicity (5H) – The more modern portraits had a very different technique to the Tudor ones. Not just paintings were there, statues also. I am unable to pick a favourite one, but perhaps the picture of Queen Elizabeth I where she wore a large puffy gown and her hair was wavy dropped down to one side make her look very elegant.
Everyone had a marvelous day – enjoyed the experience of travelling to the Gallery and the time they spent looking closely at the art. They would all like to have the opportunity of going again.
